Types of Ball Valves
Floating Ball Valves
The ball of the ball valve is floating, under the action of medium pressure, the ball can produce a certain displacement and tightly pressed on the sealing surface of the outlet end, to ensure the sealing of the outlet end. Floating ball ball valve structure is simple, good sealing, but the ball to withstand the load of the working medium all transferred to the outlet seal, so we should consider the sealing ring material can withstand the ball media work load. This structure, widely used in low pressure ball valve.
Fixed ball valve
The ball of the ball valve is fixed, pressure does not produce movement. Fixed ball valve with floating seat, by the media pressure, the seat to produce movement, so that the seal ring tightly pressed on the ball to ensure sealing. Usually equipped with bearings on the upper and lower shafts with the ball, the operating torque is small, suitable for high pressure and large diameter valves. In order to reduce the operating torque of the ball valve and increase the degree of availability of the seal, in recent years there is an oil seal ball valve, both in the sealing surface between the pressure injection of special lubricating oil to form a layer of oil film, that enhances the sealing, but also reduces the operating torque, more suitable for high-pressure large-diameter ball valves.
Resilient ball valve
The ball of the ball valve is elastic. Ball and seat seals are made of metal materials, sealing specific pressure is very large, in accordance with the medium itself, the pressure has not reached the sealing requirements, must be applied to the external force. This valve is suitable for high temperature and high pressure media. Elastic ball is in the lower end of the inner wall of the ball to open an elastic groove, and get elastic. When the channel is closed, the wedge-shaped head of the valve stem is used to make the ball rise open and the valve seat is pressed to achieve sealing. Before rotating the ball to loosen the wedge-shaped head, the ball and then return to its original shape, so that the ball and the seat of the valve seat between the appearance of a very small gap, can reduce the friction of the sealing surface and the operating torque.
Advantages of ball valves
- Small fluid resistance: the resistance coefficient of the ball valve is equal to that of the pipe section of the same length, which ensures the high efficiency of fluid flow.

- Convenient operation, quick opening and closing: only need to rotate 90° to realize full opening or full closing, which is convenient for quick control and long-distance operation.
- Convenient maintenance: simple structure, movable seal ring, easy to disassemble and replace.
- Medium isolation: In the fully open or fully closed state, the sealing surface is isolated from the medium, reducing erosion and wear.
- Wide range of application: from small to several millimeters to large to several meters of diameter, from high vacuum to high pressure environment, the ball valve can be adapted.
- Reduced operating torque: especially for oil-sealed ball valves, the friction between sealing surfaces is reduced through the oil film, reducing the torque required for operation.
