Control Valve Brief
The control valve is a key element in the process control loops, the main function of a control valve is to keep some important process parameters within a required operating range, such as inlet/outlet pressure, flow rate, temperature, or level, etc.
As a final control element to modulating gas, air, steam, water, or other fluid, the control valve will compensate for the load disturbance and maintain the regulated process variable as close as possible to the desired set point.
So it is really important to learn terminology, application, technology, and all information of control valves, no matter you are an engineering, sales, end-user, or instrument expert. DELCO Valves engineer department made their professional effort and rich experience in the process industry to ensure the right technical information is shared.
Industries and Applications of Control Valves
Control valve applications span across numerous industries, including:
- Oil and Gas: Controlling flow rates, pressure, and temperature in pipelines, refining processes, and chemical injection systems.
- Chemical Processing: Regulating the flow of corrosive, abrasive, or high-temperature fluids in chemical reactions and processes.
- Power Generation: Ensuring the smooth operation of power plants by controlling steam, water, and gas flow in boilers and turbines.
- Water and Wastewater Treatment: Managing flow and pressure in pumping stations, distribution networks, and treatment processes.
What is a Motorized Valves?
A motorized valve uses an electric motor to open or close its mechanism, making it suitable for large valves or remote fluid control applications such as aircraft deicing, agricultural irrigation, and automated fire suppression. Common types include gate, ball, and butterfly valves. These valves are identical to manual ones except for the motor and gear train assembly.
Motorized valves solve logistic problems of manual operation, especially for large, remote, or unmanned systems. They can be operated remotely by an operator or an automated system.
They typically feature an electric motor driving a mechanism through a gear train. Vertical travel valves like gate and sluice valves use a lead screw mechanism, while globe valves use a screw mechanism for precise flow control. Rotary or quarter-turn valves, such as ball and butterfly valves, use a cam or spindle mechanism and are known for quick actuation and excellent sealing.
Motorized valve mechanisms include electrical limits to prevent over-advancement, cutting motor supply when fully opened or closed. To adjust the valve, the motor’s direction is simply reversed.
What is a Pneumatic Valves?
Pneumatic valves use compressed air flowing into and exhausting from an actuator to open and close the valve. The type of pneumatic actuator required depends on the actuator valve. Valves requiring linear motion (gate, globe, or diaphragm valves) typically require a pneumatic diaphragm actuator. Quarter-turn valves (ball and butterfly valves) typically require either a rack-and-pinion air actuator or a scotch yoke air actuator. We’ll discuss the two types of quarter-turn air actuators in greater detail.
Scotch yoke actuators are composed of a piston directly connected to a slotted yoke. A pin on the rotating shaft rides in the yoke slot, converting the linear motion to rotational motion in much the same way a crankshaft converts the linear motion of a piston connecting rod. Scotch yoke actuators have a nonlinear torque profile, with the highest torque at the beginning and end of the stroke. Scotch yoke construction is readily scalable, making this type of actuator suitable for large valves requiring high torque.
Rack-and-pinion actuators use a piston to drive a toothed shaft (the rack) which is geared to the actuator output drive (the pinion). They are typically used in lower torque applications, offer more precise control, and provide even torque throughout the stroke.
What is a Motorized Valves?
DELCO Valve solenoid valve is an automatic basic component used to control fluid. It belongs to actuator, not limited to hydraulic and pneumatic. It is used to adjust the direction, flow, speed and other parameters of the medium in the industrial control system. The solenoid valve can cooperate with different circuits to achieve the desired control, and the control accuracy and flexibility can be guaranteed. There are many kinds of solenoid valves, different solenoid valves play a role in different positions of the control system, the most commonly used are one-way valve, safety valve, direction control valve, speed control valve, etc.
Purchase Guide
● Confirm the valve size you need. We offer this motorized PVC ball valve in 1/2in to 4in.
● Confirm the valve body material you need. We offer this motorized PVC ball valve in UPVC, CPVC, PPH and PVDF material.
● Confirm the connection standard. We offer this motorized PVC ball valve in ANSI, JIS, DIN, and UK standard.
