The Purpose of the Valve
- Isolation valves: such as gate and ball valves, are suitable for use when the system needs to be completely shut off from flow. They provide a clear on/off function, but are not suitable for adjusting flow.
- Throttling/regulating valves: such as butterfly and globe valves, are able to adjust the amount of media flowing through the valve and are suitable for application scenarios where fine control of flow is required.
Medium Parameters
When selecting a valve, the flow rate of the medium, the pressure of the system and the operating temperature must be considered. These parameters determine the type, material and size of the valve.
Chemical Compatibility
Valve materials must be able to withstand the chemical properties of the media passing through them. For example, for corrosive media, valves of stainless steel or special alloys may be necessary.
